The Customer Experience

It may not seem like much, but customers notice the little things and attention to detail reflects positively on you, your artwork and the entire deviantART experience.  As such, we've put a lot of time and energy into refining the customer experience so that when a customer receives this new product, they will be thrilled with the out-of-box experience of purchasing your artwork.

We're very proud of the hanging kit we've developed to ship with your art when a customer purchases a framed print. The kit comes with everything a customer needs to hang their new purchase on a wall, including visual instructions and a built-in level to ensure a simple and straightforward hanging process.  The level mounts easily with two screws (supplied) and holds the art piece securely and perfectly straight even if it needs to be adjusted to the left or right.

The hanging kit is tucked-in with the invoice in a matte black envelope with the deviantART logo embossed on the cover of the envelope.

We've also produced a high quality satin tag (like the kind you'd find on clothing) branded with the deviantART name as well as the deviantART shop URL. In the near future, we hope to have similar branding produced with your specific shop details (i.e., yourname.deviantart.com).

How to Submit?

Submit an existing print or deviation.

For a completely new deviation, submit as usual and immediately after the deviation has been submitted select the "fine art prints" tab to configure and add this new product.

Some submission tips:

  • Avoid borders: Particularly on canvas, borders should be avoided. Full bleed images look great with the Studio Frame.
  • Use default retail pricing: If you have a premium prints account you may modify the selling price of your prints, but it is not recommended.
  • Try to make all 4 sizes available: Pick an aspect ratio and make as many sizes available as possible and upload a larger source file if necessary.

We will be initiating a major marketing effort in support of this new product soon so be sure to put your best products forward!

What's Next?

Submit your best products, order your own print Studio Framed and let us know what you think! Please feel free to submit product feedback to me directly at trowlandson.deviantart.com.

Ok, Ok, what's next product-wise?

This product release addresses the need for a high quality, ready-to-hang offering. It offers really great value for someone with $90-$300 to spend to put a great piece of art on a wall. It's also a product line we hope you'll be proud to associate with your artwork.

Our next prints product objective is to create the same kind of value offering in the $10-$30 price range, so stay tuned for more on that!

Have Ideas or Feedback?

Let us know!

Please comment on this article or send me a note. It can be about this product, products you'd like to see developed, existing products you'd like to see improved or anything else you can think of relating to deviantART prints!

I love your fine art prints, but I was wondering for several of the prints I offer, the "Jet" frame option is not available, only espresso and beachwood... I was wondering why this is because for certain images, jet would be the best option but doesn't show up. Can you help me with this?

In fact, come to think of it, your software may be broken. I submittted print files that were 3000x2000, and it wouldn't accept them for 18x12 size prints. That's more than 150 dpi. You might want to look into it.

I think this is a great idea, but I don't see the point in requiring 150 dpi. That means that even my large files won't qualify for the smallest sizes. I don't think you need 150 dpi to do a good job.

The framed giclees look great, I hope to submit some soon.

I do have some other suggestions that I think would be great to offer as inexpensive print products. For example buttons, blank notecards (it would be nice to be able to customize the front and back of the cards), and bookmarks. Also, some other sites offer ACEO-sized, double-sided prints/cards and since there are many ACEO artists here on DA, I think those would be a wonderful thing to offer here.

The new products are impressive, and sure to enhance the already excellent quality of DA. Good ideas are born of good people. Glad to know there are thinkers and creators working behind the scenes...which of course, is where any class act begins.

Gorgeous frames! You guys have such high quality canvas prints, I miss having work to print on them.

Can you tell me more about your giclée printing process? Apparently the definitions vary quite a bit, I'm just curious.

:iconfangedfem:
fangedfem Featured By Owner Jul 30, 2008
The simplest answer is that our photo prints use a light process to produce the image, whereas the giclée printing process uses inks and is much more standard as a method for reproducing artwork on demand. The quality is really amazing.

At first I was really excited about this until I saw the price of the frames. Dude. You can get frames at thrift stores for $1-$5 that would work just as well. I mean yes your frames are sleek and stylin, but they are also thin and simple and totally not worth the price you are selling them for. I am a huge pusher of displaying your work professionally but this is totally ripping off the consumer and the artist.

Except thrift store frames will not be hung in a gallery, not to mention the cost of getting professional framing, which can cost anywhere between 40-50 on it's own. Is it for everyone? no. Is it for artists that are putting on a showing, or a serious collector? Definitely.

I just wish that fiinnnaly the pricing interface would get an overhaul. it is so annoying to change prices, and it all takes too long :hmm:

that said, the actual products themselves look great! :highfive:

So far ,I've never had any printing done unless I was able to look at the first proof.
Is that service available,to look at even a small sample of a print. And if the colors do not match what I'm seeing on my monitor,is there any opportunity to adjust? Or is this simply you get what you get ...
Pre framing has a convenience appeal, but if this is coming from Australia all the way to the U.S. how is it packaged and is there any protocol if it's damaged?
